Sudarshan Mondal
Sudarshan Mondal is an independent photographer based in Orlando, Florida. He loves creating images, storytelling, and the creative process involved. Sudarshan’s work encompasses nature, landscapes, people, and visual narratives. His nature and landscape pieces are soulful and transcendental; they resonate deeply and evoke inner callings.
His photographs are often perceived as windows onto situations or scenes that extend beyond the edges of the photo frame, allowing new perspectives on time and place, relationships, and emotion. They reflect a state of mind, reverberate with souls, and make an enduring impact. In his narratives, when he compiles photographs in a blog post or series, the spaces between them fill with time, place, angle, or motif, which can be as significant as what is pictured.
Through his photographic endeavors, he establishes a sense of time and often searches for social theories. His documentary and street photos depict social, political, and financial issues and conflicts while portraying the surreal beauty and enduring power of the human spirit and its emotional aspects. His quest for new experiences compels him to continually evolve his thought process and redefine his approach to work. He believes in simplicity, being close to life, openness, honesty, and the importance of carrying a camera with humor, compassion, wonder, and curiosity. As he moved to different locations for his work, each new location brought a unique set of circumstances—geography and time in life—which were reflected in his work and style of photography over time.
Photography Journey
Sudarshan’s selection of subjects, approaches, and narratives depends on the project’s theme. He attended several workshops and seminars to enrich his work. Brooks Jensen’s workshop significantly influenced his approach to photography and has left an indelible imprint on his work. Additionally, he participated in a master photography workshop by the renowned photographer and author Soumitra Datta. Sudarshan was born and raised in a village in West Bengal, India. He studied engineering at a reputed college in Kolkata and now works as a software consultant at a top consulting firm in the US. He feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to work on personal projects, travel, and collaborate with fellow photographers and writers. He has lived in rural Bengal, Kolkata, London, Dallas, Syracuse, New York City, and now Orlando due to his work. He has become acquainted with many people of different cultures and nationalities. Currently, he resides in Orlando, Florida, with his family.
