Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular
I was checking all information over the internet for the spot to take these images, but not sure how I missed the most important part. Police had a strict rule that no one will be allowed to go in with a backpack. And I had a brand new Deuter backpack, very lightweight but sturdy, and I had my camera and lens inside it, and the tripod was in a tripod bag separately. When I arrived at the gate, for the entrance of Hoboken Pier A, admittedly the best spot for photographing Macy’s fireworks on Hudson front, they said politely that I wouldn’t allow my backpack inside.
Well, I had four options at that time: first – return back home and forget about the watching and photographing fireworks, or watch on TV, second – threw the backpack in a bin bag, many people were doing that too and authority kept few large bin bags over there for this, what a scene, though it was a very tough choice for me as that was my brand new Deuter backpack, third – try to another gate where a different set of officers were there, you know sometimes it works, and fourth – try to wear the backpack inside my t-shirt (I was wearing on that day) in reverse order and hang the camera and lens on the neck, so apparently it would be very tough to identify if I had any backpack.
I tried the third option first, but it didn’t work out that day, bad luck. And then I chose the fourth option, went to a relatively less crowded place, put on the backpack in the reverse direction, like a chest pack, and then wore the t-shirt on. And finally, hold the camera and lens in such a way as if I was a fat guy. Thereafter, reached another gate and the officer let me went through. Hurray, a success after a stressful series of failure events!!!
